Equalities Information

Long Lane Church of England Primary School is an inclusive school and we welcome people from all backgrounds.

  • We believe that different cultures, talents and life experiences bring richness and vibrancy to life at our school and help create an environment that supports us all in learning from each other.
  • We aim to be a community where everyone is treated fairly and with tolerance and respect.
  • We want everyone to flourish and reach their potential, and we recognise that for some pupils extra support is needed to help them to achieve and be successful.
  • We take seriously our duties to eliminate discrimination, promote equality of opportunity and foster good relations between people of all backgrounds.
This duty is set out in the Equality Act of 2010, which covers sex, race, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment and pregnancy or maternity.

As part of this duty, the children at Long Lane are taught about the Protected Characteristics.

Long Lane has a clear Equality Statement with objectives and we have an Accessibility Plan to support equal access for children, staff, parents and carers.

At Long Lane, we believe that diversity is a strength that should be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit us.

To achieve this, our equality objectives are:

  • To actively promote cultural development and understanding through a rich range of experiences both in and beyond the school that enable pupils to appreciate their own culture and celebrate the diversity of other cultures.
  • To tackle discrimination through the positive promotion of equality, by challenging bullying and stereotypes and by creating an environment which champions respect for all.
  • To continually appraise how well the school evaluates equality of opportunities for all its pupils, staff, parents, carers and visitors, particularly in relation to the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act.
